TRAVEL INFORMATION

In order to
obtain a visa to enter the People's Republic of China
(PRC), you must have a passport valid for a minimum of
six months beyond the date you enter the PRC. If you do
not have a passport valid until December 1, 2009, you
should apply for a new passport immediately.
A visa is
required for entry into the PRC. Duquesne University
will provide proper instructions for all enrolled
students to apply for a visa from one of several PRC
Consulate General offices in the U.S.
| Arrival
Times |
|
|
| You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements to and from Beijing. The costs of a round-trip airfare to Beijing from the U.S. vary from airline to airline or travel agent to travel agent. The transportation from the airport to the hotel will be provided by CUPL free of charge. |
| It is critical that you inform us of your arrival date, time and flight number in Beijing at your earliest convenience, so we can arrange for a program staff member to receive you at the airport and arrange transportation for you from the airport to the Garden Hotel, Beijing. Professor Liu will arrive at the Garden Hotel in advance to receive all registered participants. |

Welcoming Banquet |
|
For the purpose of the program, you should check into the Garden Hotel no later than May 31, 2009, and check out no earlier than June 20, 2009. You should plan on arriving before dinner time on May 31, as there will be a welcoming banquet for participants on that evening. On the evening of June 19, there will be a farewell party when certificates of completion of the program will be presented to the participants. |

The Garden Hotel in Beijing
Participants are housed in the Garden Hotel, a three-star modern facility located near the lecture hall at CUPL. The hotel is equipped with western-style bathrooms, air conditioning, carpeting and an international telecommunications facility.
| The room is $24.00 per day for double occupancy. We will arrange a roommate for you largely based on the time of your arrival. If you arrive early and leave late, we cannot ensure that we can arrange a roommate for you before or after the duration of the program. You should be prepared to pay for the single occupancy rate of $48.00 per day for the extra days. We will try to arrange a roommate for you based on your preference if we can. A Housing Preference Questionnaire will be sent to you after you have enrolled in the program. |

Hotel Room |

You may eat at the hotel for approximately $12.00 (RMB 95 Yuans) a day (breakfast is included in the hotel cost). Students have found that sampling Beijing cuisine in the excellent neighborhood restaurants costs less and provides an interesting alternative. |
|
The exchange
rate between the Chinese currency RMB and the U.S.
Dollar is approximately U.S. $1.00 = RMB 7.77 Yuans.
You may also access the Universal
Currency Converter web site for additional information
on currency rates. The Chinese currency is now available
in the U.S. banks and at the international airports.
Currency exchange is available in the Beijing International
Airport. It is also available at the Garden Hotel.
U.S. Traveler's checks are acceptable in China. Visa,
Master Card and American Express are acceptable in
major hotels and big department stores. The Garden
Hotel accepts cash, traveler's checks and credit cards
for payment.
